Statement by Steve Beren, August 29,
2008
Who is Sarah Palin?
(OMED: Steve Beren is Jim McDermott's opponent for a congressional seat in the Seattle area. His political philosophy is, as you will notice below, quite similar to Palin's. If they both win, it will be a good thing for America.) I
am enthusiastic about the selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to
be the Republican candidate for Vice President. Her
nomination is a
brilliant choice! She's demonstrated a strong devotion to
the pro-life
cause, she's a proven and effective fighter against corruption
and for
government reform, and she's a knowledgeable advocate for
common-sense
policies to achieve energy independence. She's a member of the
National Rifle Association; her husband is a production operator in
Alaska's oil fields and a member of the United Steelworkers Union; her
Army son is days away from shipping off to serve our nation in Iraq.
While
Barack Obama offers empty phrases and platitudes without substance,
Palin offers an established record of success in reducing taxes, taking
on corruption, and putting into practice her conservative values.
Will
the Democrats raise the issue of "experience"? Don't even go
there
- She has thirteen years of elected experience, with more
executive
leadership than Obama and Joe Biden combined. True, Biden has
been a
Senator since the Nixon administration - but most of his experience has
been in raising taxes and blocking qualified judicial
nominees.
I've
often said that the Republican Party is stronger, more effective, and
more unified when we remain committed to our
conservative values. The
nomination of Sarah Palin to be our next Vice President is an important
step in the right direction, and I welcome her candidacy
with enthusiasm. Now, I'm more motivated than ever
about promoting
Republican policies - limited government, lower taxes, constitutional
principles, and individual responsibility - right in the heart of
liberal Seattle!
