| Oregon Magazine | Kick the habit at Serenity Lane |
Sunday, June 29, 2003 - Racing begins at 8:30 A.M.
Poster Text: Come cheer on the Northwest's greatest cycling athletes as they race on one of the most grueling courses around. Mt. Tabor Park on Portland's east side may be beautiful and serene, but this extinct volcano makes for a hilly, curvy. 1.3 mile race around the upper reservoir. Climbing 136.6 excruciating feet in elevation, riders then descend at speeds exceeding 40 mph. Don't miss this fun and exciting family event. Disclaimer: The race can be viewed all along the course, but please do not walk on the course, and obey the course marshals for your safety and the cyclists'. These guys are fast. Dogs are discouraged due to safety reasons, but if you insist on bringing Fido, you MUST have him leashed and under control at all times. Dogs and 40 mph bikes don't mix. Officially sanctioned by the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association, the race includes 11 separate events for a range of ages and competitive levels.
