John Coleman, PhD,
founder of the Weather Channel:
"Global
Warming is a Scam"
November 9, 2007 -- "We have actually cooled since 1946," he said today, going on to explain that satellite imaging of the northern polar ice cap has been only been available for the last thirty years. Here is some of the actual text from Dr. Coleman's remarks:
Mr. Coleman does not receive grants from Big Oil. When that is suggested as the motivation for his statements, he replies that a slightly altered version of the question should be asked of those who support the scam. In his own words, "The motivations of these people -- scientists working for liberal universities and the various environmental, media and political organizations
which promote the idea -- have mortgages and car payments to make."
What we regularly say here at Oregon Magazine is the following: scientists who use information -- gathered from, for example, fossilized tree rings -- have proven the existence of many cooling and warming periods in the history of this planet. They have recorded at least ten such periods in this manner. Studies of the last ice age show the polar ice cap expanding down to the 45th parallel, which in the case of Oregon means the glaciers stopped within sight of the state's present capitol. Portland, this state's largest city, was at the time under something like a hundred feet of ice. It was during this period that the famous "land bridge" between eastern Asia and North America was formed up Alaska way, which anthropology tells us provided a footpath for people from Asia to walk to this land. After each of these global cooling periods, known as "ice ages," the glaciers retreated as a result of "global warming." Since no evidence of pre-modern industrial activity has been found, that proves not even the most recent global warming period -- the one that removed nearly a hundred miles of glacial overburden from Oregon -- can be attributed to hydrocarbon emissions from vehicles, factories, jet planes, coal-fired electric generating plants or dairy cows. The only possible human issuance of carbon-based gasses contributing to the end of the last ice age would be liberal cave man politicians, cave man nutcake environmentlists and cave man former vice presidents. The axe Dr. Coleman is grinding is the axe of scientific evidence. That evidence proves that from a long-term perspective, periods of global warming are a fact. With respect to his criticism of the current blather about the subject, the key fact for those who live in this state, to give one absolutely undeniable proof, is that Portland, Oregon is no longer under 100 feet of ice -- and
not one of these global warming periods, including the current one (if
it is actually occurring) have been proven to have happened because of
the activities of human beings.
That means your universities, your newspapers, your "environmental" groups and most of your politicians are feeding you a load of crap. Why? Either because they have bought into the mass psychological panic about the subject, or as Dr. Coleman says, because they have discovered that going along with the hysteria serves their own personal needs -- say, keeping their jobs.
