| E-RFD: Spending
(ED: Or, The Road to Hell is Paved With Good Intentions) Date: Thu, 04 Jan 2007 19:09:01 -0800 From: "Ross A. Smith" <rosssmith@charter.net> It seems to me that liberals honestly believe that the reason their policies never work (or at least never seem to quite solve the problem they were implemented to solve) is that there is just never enough tax money to spend on them. Apparently there is simply no qualitative concept of "return on investment" in the liberal mind. And there is also lacking the idea of unintended consequences -- or a failure to conceptualize the larger picture and how things interact in that larger frame of reference. My favorite example is how Lyndon Johnson's war on poverty and especially AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependant Children) drove the Negro male out of the family as breadwinner and caused a total breakdown of the Afro-American culture. This worked a miracle for the Democrat Party, but was a disaster for most of black America. raz
