WINDCHILL 30 BELOW: CHICAGO Scientists doubt global warming
Here is the first part of the text the above link provides:
So, there you have it. Doubt. Perhaps Dr. Shariv was sitting there at his telescope one day, and suddendly recalled 'scientific method.' The preceeding two words are the foundation of the modern world. Everything from the operation you had last year to your automobile to your television set is based on them. E=MC2, the formula which predicted the nuclear bomb, the mother board that is running the computer you are using to read this text, the cell phone, the DVD -- all rely on the process called 'scientific method.' What is it? It is a statement that a scientific concept proposed by somebody remains a theory until science proves its premises are true by tests which other scientists can duplicate, and get the same results, themselves. In a word, if a man says he knows of a place where cows can fly, nobody has to believe him until he proves it. Your mainstream media here in Oregon, being composed of liberals (a political philosophy which denies Scientific Method in deed if not in word) has long promoted the view that if you don't go back to living in a cave, or at least a commune, you will destroy the Earth. We at Oregon Magazine have long called for proof of this claim. Liberals believe that when they say a thing, no additional justification is required. They are people who believe that what they believe is fact just because they believe it -- that is, their motives are so generous and pure that their method of logic leads only to the truth. And -- get this -- they believe that your money should be spent, your life altered, based on their vision of things. If this strikes you as being a bit arrogant, give yourself a gold star. In conclusion, the actual facts available say that there is global warming. All geological evidence indicates that the polar ice cap that used to stop just north of Salem melted back because of global warming. If it hadn't, human civilization would not have begun, and all the damned liberals who infest our largest city, Portland, would be hunting wooly mammoths around Eugene. But, there is no evidence that our current climate -- which is typical for this part of the planet in between ice ages -- was brought to its current stage (whatever that actually is) by the way we live, these days. I wonder how many of you out there understand that at the heart of this global warming business are people who don't like capitalism? (LL) © 2007 Oregon Magazine |
