| The Problem with Groups
Late in September, following the destruction of the World Trade Center, and the deaths of five thousand innocent American citizens, Maynard Orme of OPB began to run a notice on his (not my) public broadcasting system. Facing the camera with the liberal's classic facial attitude of pain and concern, he told viewers to go to the OPB website where they would find information on how to bring their Oregon community together in the aftermath of the disaster. He is obviously worried that some groups of Americans have formed a harsh attitude toward another group of Americans - Moslems. The irony of that man delivering that message is titanic. Since the Sixties, he and his fellow liberals have waged a war of division in this nation. They have created the very situation he is now decrying. For more than four decades his crowd has pitted, to name three of many, blacks against whites, women against men, the poor against the rich, These liberals have used the media, Hollywood, academia, legislatures, regulatory bodies and the courts to break America into a hundred different special interest groups, in the process disembowelling the greatest governmental document in history - the U.S. Constitution. Let me tell you about the U.S. Constitution. It is rooted in one single idea - the rights of the individual. (A "group" of one.) The greatest Americans who ever lived, the founding fathers, wrote it that way because they knew that the strength of a free nation is rooted in the basic rights of the individual citizen, not in special rights for groups. Most of these white, male, middle-aged, rich men knew that there is evil in group rights. They saw it in the special rights of the English peerage. They even knew that Colonial slavery, the result of special group rights, flew in the face of the basic premise of their own Declaration of Independence! How do you like that one? By setting in stone the concept of universal individual rights, they signed the death warrant to that slavery. They set the nation on the path to full citizenship for all, thus guaranteeing the eventual end of the very economic system from which they made their own living. Special group rights, government-ordained legal domination by one group over another, was done for. (If you think they didn't know the meaning of the words they wrote, you watch too much public television.) Mr. Orme's crowd doesn't understand what you just read. Nor do they understand the definiton of the word "freedom." Here it is. Freedom is individual possibilities. A slave has none, a free man has many. You can tell if a nation is free these days by counting the number of new millionaires. We had 20,000 of them last year. Redistributionists oppose the idea of people getting rich as a result of their own good judgement, creativity and hard work. They instantly assemble these individuals into a group -- the evil rich -- then portray them as the reason why other people are poor. (As though money were water and by pouring it into these folks glass it was poured out of other folks glasses. It isn't. That isn't the way capitalism works.) By lumping the successful into this evil group versus the good poor group (what's good about being poor?) they prove my premise. All one has to do to go from from being "good and noble" to "evil and selfish" is to become successful. Same guy, new identity. Financial success turns him, in liberal eyes, into a greedy, bloated, rat. Same guy! It's amazing. Liberals are against the individual pursuit of happiness. Pursuing group happiness is apparently okay. In the process they limit the potential of the nation, the creativity and energy of every American alive. And, they do something even worse. In that process, they have robbed great segments of the populace - in particular, minorities - of something of great importance. It was an elder of the Umatilla Indians who recently said, "We were wrong to take money from the white man. It stole our pride." Amen to that, and may the Great Spirit create a special place in the land beyond the living for that brilliant Indian. Mark this one down, friends. It is the difference between a liberal and a conservative. The former Balkanizes America. The latter believes in you. To a conservative, you are a member of only one group. You are an American. Ah, Maynard. Did you rediscover Old Glory this week? I hope so. And, there is much more for you to discover -- and communicate on your statewide socialist TV network. Do you know which political party went to war to keep slavery? Your party, Maynard. Do you know which political party wanted the original Oregon constitution to allow slavery? Look at your voter registration card.. Do you know which party fought the Civil Rights Act? Here's a hint: Republican votes are the only reason it passed. Do you know the name of the man who first integrated the National Guard in Arizona? Barry Goldwater, and he wasn't supporting a group. He was protecting the individual rights of an American citizen.. Do you know the name of the man who activated the National Guard to open the door of a public school to a little black girl who had been shut out? It was Eisenhower. He wasn't a Democrat and he wan't supporting a group. He was protecting the individual rights of an American citizen. And was Rosa Parks a group or one fed up human being who refused to play second fiddle on a public bus? Friends, don't buy into this latest compassionate plea of Orme's. Like all liberals, his compassion is dished out on a group basis. Some groups need more rights than other groups. His network is infused with this group favoritism sickness. It reeks of it. Watch PBS and see if you can figure out what America's Liberal Broadcasting Network thinks of Islam vs. Christianity. The slant given to Christian missionaries is quite different from the slant given to the propagators of Islam - witness the Tuareg segment of the current African series. Where the spreading of Christianity is a PBS "bad," the spreading of Islam is a PBS "good." This is because Christians don't belong to the right group. Moslems, a large minority of whom represent the most murderous, oppressive cadre of religious fanatics in the world, do. (A note to Maynard: We shall need the location of the latest Christian hijacking and massacre, plus the name of the Christian nation presently outlawing Islam and practicing political incarceration, confiscation of the property of, and slavery of Moslems before we retract that last sentence.) Watching his concern over the death of one U.S. Moslem as a result of bigotry, I tried to recall his similar messages related to the maltreatment of Christians anywhere on the planet. Five thousand of them have died in Zimbabwe alone in the past five years. He didn't make a public call for compassion toward them. Thousands of Christians are in jail, or dead, in China. There was no Maynard Orme plea for mercy for them. Moslems suppress, enslave, outlaw and murder Christians every day from the Sudan to Afghanistan. Maynard's strange compassion doesn't include a public plea for them. (Maynard considers that last sentence -- absolutely factual in every respect -- to be hate speech. That's right. He thinks the truth, if it is politically incorrect, should not be spoken.) He made no plea either, when the rulers of Afghanistan publicly executed a woman for adultery -- led her into a stadium full of onlookers, shoved her to her knees, then pointed a pistol at her head and pulled the trigger to the great delight of the huge crowd. Every spectator was a Moslem. Uh, Maynard, you folks thought Bob Packwood should lose his Senate seat for pinching a few butts. Why is it that a supporter of the femnist movement like you doesn't have a public statement about the murder of that woman? We saw her in the dirt on her knees. We saw her twist around and beg for mercy. Then we saw the Moslem executioner gesture angrily at her. She turned away and looked at the ground. He then put a bullet into her brain. We'd all like to hear your explanation as to why Packwood's crime was the greater. And, in the end, that last item says it all, my friends. Liberal blacks cannot be criticized when they act like idiots, but conservative blacks must be excoriated for accusations without any basis in fact.. If heteroxexuals torture and kill a homosexual, that's big news to Orme. If homosexuals torture and kill a heterosexual, that is quite a different thing. (We know this to be true because when those two things happened in the same year a while back, Maynard's Socialist People's Democratic Electric News Shoppe trumpeted the one and ignored the other.) People who believe in individual rights believe torture and murder is torture and murder. People like Maynard Orme, who believe in group rights, think that it all depends. Some tortures and murders are better than others. And, you thought liberals were about equality and love. It must be a shock to find that, as a group, they're about inequality and hate.
