Pigskin Pete Week Seven -- Pigskin Scores 4-1 as UO, OSU, UW Win
By Fred Delkin
Twas a good week to be a Northwest collegiate football fan as our regional powers came up perfect on the winning side...UO, OSU and UW all won. This week, UO, OSU & WSU all have Saturday off. Washington and California both travel south in important Pac10 matches.
The Huskies made an unlikely comeback against Arizona last week, aided by a foolish passing attempt by the Wildcats in the closing minutes that was intercepted. Now the Dawgs take on ASU's Sun Devils and we expect the Huskies will manage another win behind the heroics of QB Jake Locker. WASHINGTON by 3.
California has failed to live up to its preseason potential after one-sided routs by Oregon & USC. We believe the Bears will rebound in the Rose Bowl home of UCLA, which is suffering quarterback woes. CALIFORNIA by 7.
Southern Cal travels for its annual joust with Notre Dame and we're confident that Trojan mentor Pete Carroll will outcoach and outman the Irish. Doing so will prep the men of Troy for their next back-to-back intra-conference battles with Oregon State and Oregon. USC by 10.
Stanford travels to Arizona after coming up short at Oregon State. This looks like a very even match. The Wildcats have lost 5 of their last 6 games with the Cardinal and will probably assuage their UW loss by reversing that losing trend, but it won't be easy. ARIZONA by 3.
Portland State survived a trip into snow country with a narrow win over Northern Colorado, but did little to ease Viking coach Jerry Glanville's slide below preseason expectations. PSU hosts Northern Arizona this week, and if the Vikings fashion another collapse before their home crowd there will be calls for Glanville to join Mouse Davis in retirement. PSU BY 3.
