(From an Associated Press story) -- The bill would allow illegal immigrants
to come forward right away, but they could not get visas or begin a path
to citizenship until the border security improvements and a high-tech worker
Critics say border security improvements will arrive just after the balloon of the Wizard of Oz. Critics also say that to make a couint of the number who return to their home countries all you need is one finger. They even tell you which finger. All this noise is about the pending passage of a Senate bill that
isn't even written, yet, but may now be listed on somebody's schedule as
SB-1348. We'll use that designation until something better pops up. For
non-citizens who can read English, a "bill" in this case is not a piece
of paper money, a man's name, a demand for payment of a debt or a bird's
mouth. It is a term for a piece of -- oh,, we'll call it "legislation"
presently sort of in the U.S. Senate.
"No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig." -- A Republican presidential candidate Okay, this bill, if passed by both houses and signed by a probably willing president, will create millions of new -- oh, we'll call them "citizens-in-waiting" -- in these United States of America. God only knows how many of them will have completed elementary level schooling, let alone high school. When will they become fully fledged citizens? I don't know. Illegal aliens cannot do that, but with this amnesty bill, they will no longer be illegal aliens. The door is wide open for them, right to your wallet. For them, and their family. (One legendary media conservative referred to the clauses covering the subsequent importation of relatives as "scary." This media conservative, whose initials are "RL," also said that the number estimate I have provided here, 20 million, represents less than half of the true number.) Whatever the number, it portends cost. (Remember the education level mentioned above.) Nearly all of these legal residents will require some kind of public assistance somewhere along the way. That's just historical fact. The estimated cost of this bunch? Reported if my memory serves by a fellow from the conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation, when he was a guest today (May 17) on a radio program, including health care subsidies, the cost of public education, food assistance, clothing allowances, dental care, subsidized housing, etc.,etc., and etc over the life of these people and their families it looks like the bottom line will be a three with twelve zeros. $3,000,000,000,000 -- not including the cents. That is three trillion dollars. I can hear all the little socialists cheering. It's Robin Hood Time. We’ll rob the rich and give to the poor !!!! Sorry. Socialists are not fond of accurate numbers, but even though it may cost this publication one reader, here goes. It’s a matter of scale. How big the numbers are for one group as opposed to another. With an apology to the only real Robin Hood, Errol Flynn (who was a millionaire), it can be easily proven mathematically that you could tax all the rich people in America 90% over any time scale you like, and besides causing another 1929 stock market crash, bread lines and massive unemployment, you still wouldn't come close to raising three trillion dollars.. No, there is only one place where that kind of dough can be found. If you are what is known as a "middle class American," it is in your pocket. You have less wealth and income to tax than the rich folks, but there are zillions of people like you in America. Mark my words. If this bill passes, the taxman cometh, in spades. Other special rights Senate Bill 1348 provides for guaranteed union wages for these illegals. I don't know how it does it, but a number of conservatives today said it is a guarantee you don't have. Of course, if you are a liberal you wouldn't trust the folks I trust if they told you that the sun is a star. Anyway, more about this bill. Do these illegally imported new residents get entrance into the American social security system? You bet. Do they get a pass on unpaid taxes and on charges for failing to file income taxes for years. That, based on reports, may be how it is. Do you, a citizen already, get that? Nope. (Do the same thing as them and it’s off to court for you.) And, we're just getting rolling. Under this bill’s rules, you can be fired by an employer without what is known as "just cause," but all these millions of one-time illegals will now be able to go to court and force an employer to provide "just cause" for such action.. How about in-state government paid tuition for their children's education? They get it, you don't. Anybody who opposes this amnesty bill will be branded a racist. Some folks object to that, pointing out that they think this is a national security, not a race issue. They don’t care what color the millions of border jumpers are. They don’t want any of them in America. Here’s what you should do if you aren’t an idiotic liberal who is willing to give America away. Call these numbers. 202-224-3121 Capitol Hill Switchboard
Tell the people you reach that you would prefer that (A) the proposed southern border fence not be shortened by half (actually a part of this bill !!) and (B) that politicians who vote for this be removed from office at the earliest opportunity, like the next election. I assume you would prefer that U.S. Senators spend their time representing American citizens instead of illegal aliens. In fact, it might help if in a pleasant and reasonable tone you told them that you will not support any politician, or political party, with your vote or your money, if they support this bill. Will it work if you make the calls? (Or write or e-mail or telegraph or whatever.) If enough people complain, probably. How long do you have to do it? They'll be voting on the bill on Monday. That is May 21, 2007. The bill hasn't even been formally put on paper yet, but they're in a hurry to get this done before most folks find out what is going on. Who are "they?" Most all of the Democrats, and a shocking number of Republicans, including the President of the United States, who I usually like a lot. (Update May 21 headline on the Drudge Report: SENATE PUTS OFF ACTION ON IMMIGRATION. Apparentlly you folks made the calls.) Hell, John McCain, the war hero senator from Arizona, of all places, helped Teddy Kennedy work up the thing. We hear it is at present 400 pages (some say 700), about ten or twenty thousand words, long, but since it isn't even in bill form -- that is, formally written down -- we wonder how they know. It may be that some of them can smell how big it is from a distance. (LL) Original text © 2007 Oregon Magazine |
